The Huawei K562 Mesh Wi-Fi router is designed for versatile use. You can use it as a standalone router or connect it to another modem to extend your wireless network. By connecting multiple Huawei K562 Mesh Wi-Fi routers, you can create a wide-area, secure mesh network in your home.

This guide provides you with instructions on how to use your wifi router as a router or wireless network extender.

The tools you need

• Huawei K562 Mesh Wi-Fi router
• Power cord
• Ethernet network cable
• The device you are connecting to the wireless network (e.g. computer or smartphone)
  
  

Tips for placing your Wi-Fi router

• Place the Wi-Fi router in an open space, away from obstacles such as walls or large metal objects.
• Make sure the router is centrally located in your home for the best signal.
  

1. Connect the power cable to the Wi-Fi router and the power socket.
2. Connect the network cable to the wifi router and the wall socket or LAN port on another modem.
   
3. Confirm or change the wifi network name and password by logging in to https://192.168.100.1 using a web browser. The wifi network name (SSID) and password can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the wifi router.

1. Before installing the second device, log on to https://192.168.100.1 (the password can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the first device) and confirm your WiFi network name and password. You can also change the network name and password to the one you want.
2. Place the second Huawei K562 Mesh WiFi router next to the first WiFi router. Connect the power cable to the new WiFi router and the power socket.
   
3. Look at the indicator light on the first wifi router. Wait for about a minute until the light starts flashing red. This indicates that the router is ready to pair.
   
4. Press the Pair button on the first Wi-Fi router to pair it. Hold the button down until you see the red light flashing rapidly on both wifi routers. This indicates that pairing is in progress.
   
5. Confirm the pairing. Pairing is successful when both devices have a steady white light on. Now your new wifi router is connected to your mesh network.
   
6. You can now start using the wireless network. Your wifi name and password will automatically synchronise with the first K562.
7. You can repeat the above steps to add more Huawei K562 Mesh wifi routers to your mesh network. This will extend the network coverage to different areas of your home.
   

Change your Wi-Fi network name and password

1. You can find the original wifi network name (SSID) and password on the sticker on the bottom of your wifi router. 
2. Open your internet browser and go to https://192.168.100.1 to log into the router settings. The password for logging in can be found on the bottom of the wifi router.
3. Change the wifi network name (SSID) or password by entering the new name or password. 
4. Click Next to save your changes.
5. Create a wifi connection with the new wifi network name and password.
   

Changing the encryption of your Wi-Fi network

1. Open your internet browser and go to https://192.168.100.1. The password to log in can be found at the bottom of the wifi router. 
2. Go to the My Wi-Fi tab.
3. Select Encrypt and choose the type of encryption you want. We recommend WPA2-PSK encryption for the best possible encryption.

Wifi encryption with legacy devices

Not all devices support WPA2-PSK encryption. If you experience connection problems on older devices after changing encryption, you can switch back to WPA/WPA2-PSK encryption.

Restoring factory settings (reset)

Need for reset

• If the wifi router is not working properly (e.g. connection lags or does not connect at all), we recommend resetting the device to factory defaults.

Resetting

1. You can find the Reset button on the bottom of the wifi router.
2. Press the Reset button with a sharp object (e.g. a paper clip) for more than 2 seconds.
3. The factory settings are restored when the indicator light turns off and turns red again.
   

Note! Restoring the factory settings will erase any settings you have previously made, such as changes to your wifi network name and password. The original wifi network name and password can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the wifi router.

Your computer or tablet reports weak security (WPA)

The Huawei K562 Mesh WiFi router defaults to stronger WiFi network security (WPA/WPA2-PSK), which is suitable for most devices. Some devices, such as Apple, may report weak security when you connect the device to the wifi network.

Measures

• To change the security to a stronger WPA2-PSK encryption setting, follow the instructions in Changing Wifi network encryption..
  
• Note that not all older devices support WPA2-PSK encryption. If you cannot connect to the Internet on an older device, change the security settings back to WPA/WPA2-PSK encryption.
