What is the EU Data Act?

The EU Data Act aims to make it easier to access and use data. It largely covers data generated by the use of connected devices.

  • In the future, manufacturers of devices must design their products so that users can directly access the data generated by the device (applies to devices placed on the market after 12 September 2026).
  • If, for technical reasons, the user cannot obtain the data, for example, directly from the device, the manufacturer is obliged to provide the relevant data to the user upon request.
  • The user can also request that the data from the device be disclosed to a third party, such as a company providing services or additional services.

More information about the Data Act can be found on the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency website
