Subscription and activation of your eSIM

For eSIM to work on your device, it must be activated using the QR code found in OmaElisa. Before activation, make sure that your device has the latest software version from your device provider and that it is connected to the internet (wifi/mobile data).

Here's how to download and activate your eSIM on your smart device:

1. Log in to OmaElisa at omaelisa.fi. We recommend that you log in using a computer, for example, so that you can easily read the QR code required for the activation on your smart device. If you do not yet have the necessary login credentials, you can activate Elisa Tunnus.
2. Open Product and subscription and select the right subscription..
3. Select a SIM card or eSIM.
4. Click Activate new SIM card or activate eSIM and select eSIM as the card type.
5. Follow the instructions in OmaElisa to see the QR code to download and activate the eSIM on your device.
   

iPhone/iPad

1. Make sure your device has the latest software version iOS 12.1 (or later) from your device supplier and that it has an internet connection (wifi/mobile data).
2. Go to device settings
3. Select Mobile network or Mobile data
4. Tap add a mobile connection
5. The QR code scanner opens, scan the QR code with it and follow the instructions

If an "Uncertified mobile subscription" pop-up message appears during the download, you can ignore it and it will not affect your subscription or your phone. The message appears because Elisa's eSIM is not Apple-certified at the moment.

Samsung Galaxy Watch

When you enable eSIM on your Samsung Galaxy Watch, you will need a second smart device (such as a phone) to help you set up eSIM and a new app to manage your smartwatch.

1. Make sure that your watch and phone have the latest software version from your supplier and that your phone is connected to the internet (wifi/mobile data).
2. Install the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone to manage your watch
3. Pair your watch with your phone using the Galaxy Wearable app
4. From the Galaxy Wearable app, select Galaxy Watch and select Mobile networks
5. Read the QR code with the Galaxy Wearable app scanner
6. Once the QR code has been read and the profile downloaded, the watch will restart and connect to Elisa's network
7. If you want to use the watch's own connection for calls, messages and internet access, make sure wifi and bluetooth are switched off.

If necessary, see your device's user manual for further instructions.

If necessary, you can reload your eSIM on the same device using the QR code in OmaElisa, for example if you accidentally delete your eSIM profile from your device.

The QR code can be found in OmaElisa like this:

1. Log in to OmaElisa at omaelisa.fi. We recommend that you log in using a computer, for example, so that you can easily read the QR code required for the activation on your smart device.
   
2. Select the subscription you have on the left.
3. Select a SIM card or eSIM.
4. Click Activate new SIM card or activate eSIM and select eSIM as the card type.
5. Follow the instructions in OmaElisa to see the QR code to download and activate the eSIM on your device.

If you change your device and the new device also supports eSIM, you will need to order a SIM card replacement to the new eSIM from OmaElisa. This will give you a new QR code to download and activate the eSIM on your new device.

• You cannot get mobile verification for your eSIM. If you have two subscriptions on your phone (one with eSIM and one with a normal SIM card), you can use the mobile authentication of the normal SIM card by setting mobile data access to the physical SIM card subscription in your phone settings.
• eSIM is not available for Elisa Latausliittymä.

• Is your device eSIM compatible? See devices that support eSIM
• Make sure the device you're reading the QR code on is connected to the internet - you can't set it up without an internet connection
• Will you read the QR code with the right app? Only the QR code reader on your device can be used to access the app. For detailed instructions on how to set up, see the section on reading QR codes on different devices.
• Re-enable - if you have verified the above, remove the eSIM profile from your device and re-do the eSIM download and activation in OmaElisa.
  
• Please note that you can only activate the QR code on one device. If you want to switch to eSIM on another device, you will need to change your SIM card from OmaElisa to the new eSIM.

How is eSIM different from a traditional SIM card?

What does an eSIM cost?

The eSIM does not cost anything extra. We will charge you according to the price list for opening a connection and for actions such as changing a card or issuing a PUK code.

If I subscribe to an eSIM from Elisa, can I switch to another operator?

Using an eSIM is no different from using a traditional SIM card to switch operators. You can change operator if you wish, as you did before.

Will my phone number remain the same if I use eSIM and want to transfer my subscription from another operator to Elisa?

Using an eSIM is no different from using a traditional SIM card in terms of your phone number. eSIM does not affect your phone number and you can transfer it from one operator to another if you wish.

Can I use a physical SIM card and an eSIM at the same time?

The possibility of using a traditional SIM card and eSIM simultaneously depends on the device. Always check with the device manual or the device manufacturer to be sure.

Can I have several eSIM subscriptions on my device at the same time?

Some devices allow you to load more than one eSIM profile, but you can only use one eSIM at a time. See your device's user guide for more instructions on managing your connection settings.

Does eSIM work abroad?

A subscription opened for an eSIM will work abroad in the same way as an Elisa subscription with a traditional SIM card.

Is an eSIM as secure as a regular SIM card?

The security of using an eSIM is no different from using a traditional SIM card. eSIM is therefore as secure as a physical SIM card.

I need a new eSIM, how do I get one and how much will it cost?

From OmaElisa, it is possible to subscribe to the exchange of a traditional SIM card for an eSIM and the exchange of an eSIM for an eSIM, for example when changing your device. For SIM card replacement, we charge a fee according to our customer service price list.

I enabled eSIM on my watch and the battery is draining fast - why?

If you've set your watch to use mobile data, it may run out of battery faster than if you're on a wireless network or connected to your phone via bluetooth. We recommend that to save battery power, you connect your watch to your phone or wireless network via Bluetooth whenever possible.
