Ships may have their own separately priced on-board networks (satellite roaming). Access to the on-board network (satellite roaming) is blocked for Elisa subscriptions from 28.10.2019. Your phone will not be able to find the ship network, so you will not be able to make or receive calls, or send or receive text messages.

Frequently asked questions about using your subscription abroad
If the lost device has a SIM card inside, or if the device works via eSIM, it is essential to temporarily close the connection as soon as possible. This will prevent anyone from misusing your connection.
Temporarily close your subscription in OmaElisa
You can temporarily block your subscription in OmaElisa or the OmaElisa app. Click on the button above or alternatively follow this path:
- Log in to OmaElisa and select your subscription number.
- Select Temporarily close the connection.
- Click Temporarily close outgoing traffic or Temporarily close connection.

- If the device is found and you want to reactivate the subscription, you can remove the temporary access block in OmaElisa in the same place as you close the subscription. See here for further instructions.
- If you can't access OmaElisa and need urgent help to close your subscription, call our customer service. We accept reports of lost devices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If your connection can't find the network when you're abroad - for example, you can't make calls or send text messages - do this:
- Check in OmaElisa that you have authorised the use of your subscription abroad.

Introducing mobile data (roaming) abroad
It is also possible to find out if the Internet is not working abroad with Elisa Verkkoapuri. Choose your mobile network as a starting point and proceed step by step.
Datavartija is enabled by default on all Elisa subscriptions in accordance with the EU Roaming Regulation.
Datavartija will set a balance limit of €62 (€50 + VAT) for international data transfers in all countries around the world where Elisa's mobile data connections work. The balance limit is designed to prevent unexpected costs for data transfer abroad, so that the cost of using the internet (data transfer) is not a surprise.
Datavartija balance limit is automatically updated at the end of each calendar month, meaning that you will have €62 worth of international data available again.
When you start using your subscription to access the internet (data transfer) abroad for the first time, you will receive an SMS message telling you that Datavartija is available. When 80% of the balance limit has been used, you will receive a reminder message. The next text message will arrive when the €62 balance limit is reached, at which point your internet access (data transfer) will be blocked. The SMS will contain instructions on how to order an additional balance.
If you wish, you can increase the data keeper's balance in OmaElisa or the OmaElisa app:
- Log in to OmaElisa and select the subscription whose Data Guard you want to edit.
- Select Block access.
- Under Datavartija, click on Raise balance limit.

Other points to note:
- If you have blocked a data transfer abroad, Datavartija has no influence on the effectiveness of the block.
- For example, Datavartija will not prevent you from using the hotel's WiFi network.
- If you have deactivated Datavartija, it will not be automatically reactivated when you change the connection type.
- If you want to enable Datavartija for a new subscription type, turn it on in OmaElisa or contact our customer service..

The average traveller usually uses data to read the news and the web, to use map applications and to find places to eat, for example. For this kind of use, 1 GB (= 1024 MB) is already a lot. By comparison, one gigabyte can be used to upload 200 photos online or send around 33 300 WhatsApp messages.
